‘The Game’: Season 5 Episode 8 Review

"The Game" returned tonight after taking last week off.  Check out a very short review after the jump.

As always, reviews of previous episodes can be found here.

This episode felt like wheel spinning so I don't really have a lot to say. Melanie and Tasha Mack are not progressing toward reconciliation. There was no football or Jason Pitts. No real discussion of Malik's financial troubles.

In other words, it was just kinda there. The episode wasn't bad so much as nondescript.

There was no real humor in Janay and Melanie as friends and dramatically the story morphed into one about Derwin's dislike of anyone in Janay's life.  There is potential in Janay becoming Melanie's friend that I hope the show explores. It'll be interesting to see if this continues or if it really was just a set up for some Derwin/Melanie stuff.

Tonight's Tasha Mack story continues the show's move toward completely obliterating Tasha as a character. There is lots of history on The Game of Tasha's inability to keep a man. And the show has established really well that part of it is that she's been single so long that she just can't let her guard down long enough to let a good man in.

But there was no room for further exploration of that because the show was more interested in the comic hijinks of Tasha Mack inadvertently sleeping with a prosititue (played by Carl Anthony Payne). Except it wasn't really all that funny.

But it looks from the previews like this is actually going to go somewhere since Payne is returning. So let's see how it goes.

What did you guys think?

I thought the episode was straight funny. I like how the whole season is slowly showing us that fame is turning Derwin into an egotistical phony.

I do like Derwin’s story. This episode is just a standalone and I didn’t find it all that funny.

Do you know what song is playing when tasha meets prostitute at the bar?
